Dental implants are titanium fixtures that are placed in the jawbone with the goal of replacing missing teeth or anchoring removable dentures in order to get more stability. Once the bone heals around the implant a crown will be attached to the implant.
An unfortunate reality of life is that we sometimes lose teeth through injury, disease, improper care, or advanced age. However, thanks to modern dental technology, available through AV Dental Associates, missing teeth can be quickly and easily replaced with Dental Implants at our Jersey City office.
A natural tooth is comprised of a root, holding it in place, and a crown, the visible portion used for chewing. A dental implant is essentially the same, consisting of a titanium “root” anchored into the jaw bone, and a crown that is nearly identical in appearance and function to a real tooth. Many patients and dental professionals agree; dental implants easily surpass dentures as a solution to missing teeth.
Dr. Vahid, who holds a great deal of experience in the field of dental implants, offers both traditional implants, as well as the new All-on-4 Dental Implant procedure. This revolutionary system is a fantastic alternative to dentures because it can support a full-arch prothesis on just four implants. That means fewer visits, and a lower cost for you.
There are two types of implants:
• Endosteal (in the bone): This is the most commonly used type of implant and can include various types with screws, cylinders or blades surgically placed into the jawbone. Each implant holds one or more prosthetic teeth and this type of implant is generally used as an alternative for patients with bridges or removable dentures.
• Subperiosteal (on the bone): These implants are placed on top of the jaw with the metal framework’s posts protruding through the gum to hold the prosthesis. They are often used for patients who are unable to wear conventional dentures and who have minimal bone height.
